Information / Public services

Coatroom
A coatroom is available at the entrance to the Civic Medieval Museum and City Art Collections. Handbags, backpacks, umbrellas and other bulky objects are not allowed into the Museum. Lockers are available for these personal effects.

QR codes
A Quick Response-code service is active at the City Art Collections. This service allows visitors to listen to recorded information and view photos and videos regarding a given work on their mobile phones, smartphones, PDAs or similar device equipped with a camera, internet connection and an app that can easily be downloaded. When the app is running, the user merely frames the QR code with the camera and the information associated with that code is immediately called up (text, images, audio, etc.) via a simple internet connection.

Audio guides
Audio guides for the respective museums in Italian or English are available at the ticket offices of the Civic Medieval Museum and City Art Collections. The museum audio tour lasts 90 minutes, providing an introduction to Museum collections and information on the most significant works. The cost for the service is 4 euros.

The Educational Section and School Activities
The Musei Civici d'Arte Antica are composed of the Museo Civico Medievale, Collezioni Comunali d'Arte, Museo Davia Bargellini.
In external the Musei Civici d'Arte Antica manage also the Rotonda della Madonna del Monte.
The Educational Section of the Civic Historical Art Museums offers guided tours and workshops to schools of all types and levels, and a consulting service for teachers. It also works with individual schools to organize specific projects. The educational approach of the Section is focused on knowledge and valorization of cultural heritage while also promoting social inclusion, cultural integration and theoretical and practical learning in history and history of art. The staff is very open to innovative teaching approaches and methods inspired by a process of search and discovery.

Since telephone lines may be busy, reservations may also be made online at www.sophia2000.it. Registration is required to access services (registration is free and fast). Registered users may select itineraries and request reservations. The user will then be contacted via email or telephone to confirm the reservation.
Reservations are necessary for all visits to the museum, with or without the support of the Museum’s educational service. The maximum size of school and university groups is 30 students. Reservations must be cancelled at least three days prior to the visit. For guidance and information on educational activities, the Educational Section receives people wishing to make inquiries (Via Manzoni 4) by appointment only Mondays through Fridays from 10:00 to 13:00 and also Tuesday afternoons from 15:00 to 16:00.

Photography
Visitors may take photographs (analog or digital) and videos for personal use only (photos and videos may not be published via any means). Flashes and other lighting devices are prohibited. In addition to postcards, posters and bookmarks featuring illustrations of objects from the three museums that may be purchased in the respective bookshops, visitors may also purchase photographs of the works from the Museum Photography Archives by sending a request to Antonella Mampieri (antonella.mampieri@comune.bologna.it) or Irene Faranda (irene.faranda@comune.bologna.it).

Space rental
The Museo Civico Medievale offers its spaces for special events such as conferences, concerts, cocktails, buffets, etc. on workdays or holidays, days or evenings.
Spaces available: courtyard, loggia and lapidarium.

ACCESS

The museum offers disabled access, with a lift for the basement and first floor.

The use of mobile phones for conversations is discouraged within the museum, to prevent disturbance to other visitors.

Animals are not admitted.
