During the first and second century AD to satisfy a more and more demanding customers, were produced processed oil lamps with particular shapes, both in bronze and in terracotta, which with their elegance contrasted the common oil lamps.
The gladiator helmet model of lamp was a specific version of the basic channel lamp, created for an exclusive clientele seeking sophisticated items. This piece has a gladiator helmet with closed spallet and scaled outer surface. The round bore for pouring oil into the reservoir is on the rear of the large brim, while the tall crest is pierced to allow the lamp to be hung.
