Cruciform fibula

This cruciform type fibula is characterized by a massif arc curved in a semicircle and by the presence of three "onion" buttons, two placed at the ends of the hinge arm and the third at the head of the arc. On one side of the arch there is a decoration of stylized animals, on the other we read the auspicious formula UTERE FELIX, that is "use it happily."

It is a widespread type of fibula in roman provinces during the 3rd and 4th centuries AD and usead as male ornament, especially military. The valuable metal suggests that it was of an important and from the upper-class.
